UN Stands by Gaza Death Toll Figures Amid Israeli Doubts
The United Nations has stated that it continues to rely on death toll figures provided by health authorities in Gaza, noting that such data has historically been considered accurate in past conflicts.
Israel has questioned the credibility of the figures, arguing that Gaza’s health ministry is operated by Hamas and therefore cannot be trusted. Despite these concerns, the UN has said there is no alternative comprehensive data source currently available.
International humanitarian agencies have also used the Gaza health ministry’s statistics for assessments, while acknowledging the challenges of independently verifying casualty numbers during ongoing conflict.
